The Kolbensattel in Oberammergau showcased its latest addition – the Alpine Coaster – on 19th July. It is the world’s longest, weatherproof toboggan run with a magnetic braking system.
It starts 1,258 metres high on the Kolbensattel Lodge in Oberammergau. You can access it via the Kolben chair lift or you can reach it in a good 1.5 hours if you hike up.
The two-seater toboggan then takes you back down to the valley via 73 curves and a top speed of 40 km/hour. You sit comfortably in seat pans with a high backrest and a three-point safety harness. If 40 km/hours are too fast, you can regulate the speed of the Alpine Coaster with two brake levers.
For safety reasons, children under the age of 3 are not allowed to travel with you; children up up to the age of 8 can travel as a passenger with another adult. From 8 years of age and above a height of 1.40 m, children can try their hand at being “alpine pilots” on the Coaster themselves.
The toboggan run is specially protected by a modern magnetic braking system, meaning that it can be used safely even in light rain or drizzle.
