The Murnau Castle is located in the market Murnau am Staffelsee.
The Murnau Castle emerged from a castle and was converted into a museum in 1991 and 1992.
Today it houses the Murnau Castle Museum. The castle is counted among architectural monuments.
The castle museum shows the internationally important history of art and literature associated with Murnau in the 1st third of the 20th century and conveys the special features of the Alpine foothills and the local tradition and culture of Murnau.
The heart of the museum is the extensive collection of works by Gabriele Münter as well as works by the artists of the “Neue Künstlervereinigung München” and the “Blaue Reiter” (including Wassily Kandinsky, Marianne von Werefkin, Alexej Jawlensky, Franz Marc, Heinrich Campendonk).
