Buchheim Museum

The “Museum of Imagination,” named after Lothar-Günther Buchheim, can be found in Bernried on Lake Starnberg. It opened on 23rd May, 2001.

The museum’s construction comprises around 4,000 m2 and is modelled on a ship. A footbridge leads out into the lake. You can also see various sculptures in the surrounding park.

The museum houses a collection of numerous works by Erich Heckl, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Max Pechstein.
However, the museum is also a ethnological museum, presenting items that Buchheim collected on his travels.
You can also see some of Buchheim’s own works.
